Amy K. Wood, D.C.
I was born in Dallas, Texas and grew up in the Dallas Metroplex. I spent most of my childhood years participating in various sports and traveling all over the country. At the age of 7, I began to compete in roller speed skating. I skated for 8 years, won numerous awards and trained at the Olympic training center three times.
Since graduating from High School, I found I had a passion for Special Olympics. I began volunteering my time with Special Olympics. Over the years I became certified to coach tennis and soccer, and assisted with coaching basketball, volleyball, and softball.
In December of 1995, I graduated from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a minor in Marketing and special emphasis in International Business. I worked for 5 years after that with a company selling prestigious goods to the U.S. Military. Because of my family background in alternative medicine, I decided I wanted to pursue a career in that direction. Over those 5 years I realized my true calling was Chiropractic.
While attending Parker college of Chiropractic in Dallas, Texas, not only did I obtain my Doctor of Chiropractic Degree, but also received my second Bachelor of Science in Anatomy. I also met and fell in love with my husband Dr. Matt Wood. We now live in Rowlett with our daughter Aria, our cat, Molly, and our dog, Heidi.
While at Parker College I was very active in the community as well as with the school. I was President of my class, I created the student Community Service program, and became Coordinator of the program for all the students. I received my certification in backpack safety and earned the following certificates:
- Outstanding Intern, Parker College Wellness, Clinic Irving
- Clinical Assistant Program (Blue Coat), Parker College Wellness Clinic, Irving
- Numerous Community Service Awards
- Partners in Education with Foster Elementary School from the DISD
Both Matt and I graduated in the same class and pursued our dream to change the world with Chiropractic.
I have been actively involved with many community organizations and have received various awards for my volunteer efforts. Some of the organizations I have been involved with include:
- Irving Parks and Recreation Board Member
- President and Vice President of the Cimarron Park and Recreation Advisory Council
- Special Olympic Coach and Volunteer with City of Irving
Through all my education and community involvement, I have learned that the most important aspects of life are living the healthiest, happiest, life you can. This is why one of my main focuses in Chiropractic is nutrition, pediatric and family care. For me, I love the fact that Chiropractic heals from within. My love for chiropractic began in the late 1980’s. I was actively involved in sports and had suffered many injuries as a result. I began going to a chiropractor and discovered that my athletic performance improved, and I did not suffer as many injuries. My chiropractor kept my body in alignment, thus allowing me to function at 100%.
