First Visit to Wellness Solutions Chiropractic

The initial visit is a time for the Doctors to perform a very thorough and comprehensive evaluation of your health care needs.

Paperwork/Health History

Some of our paperwork is on our website. If you have the opportunity to print it and have it ready before you arrive this allows your first visit to go faster. Our paperwork is detailed and very specific to enable the Doctors to full understand your health care concerns.

Consultation - Always FREE

Once the paperwork has been completed, you will have a consultation with the doctor to discuss your health-related problems, concerns, as well as potential treatment options. If after the consultation is complete if you would like to move forward to the examination and any necessary x-rays the Doctors will happy to move forward.

Chiropractic Examination

In order to determine what your actual problem is, the doctor will ask you various questions related to your condition some of which you answered in the detailed paper work you filled out. The Doctors will perform a series of specialized tests to determine which muscles and tissues are affected and to what extent and how best to proceed with care. A spinal examination will also be done to locate and detect any misalignment and malfunction.

Why X-rays?

Taking an X-ray Image
We take all x-rays weight bearing (standing) to provide us with the best possible bio mechanical evaluation (Structurally how do you look? and what do you look like on the inside?). “If your spine where on your face would you take better care of it” Xray’s provide a blue print for your pain or lack of pain by

  • Provide a structural record of your spine
  • Locate fractures or other signs of trauma
  • Identify evidence of long term spinal degeneration
  • Confirm other examination findings

Your specific condition may require us to take x-rays to either rule out more serious conditions or to assist in developing the most effective treatment plan.

Home Instructions

All patients will be given instructions on certain activities or procedures to be conducted at home over the next few weeks. This may include ice or heat application instructions, avoidance of certain activities or positions, as well as home exercises and/or stretches.

Schedule Your Next Appointment

Your next appointment will be within 1-2 of your initial appointment. Your second visit will take about 1 hour and you will be provided with a complete review of findings as well as a personalized treatment plan for your health care needs. Treatment options as far as cost, time and length of each visit will all be discussed on this visit.

Your Second Visit to Wellness Solutions Chiropractic

After we study your health history and correlate our examination findings, we’ll make recommendations designed to help you get and keep your health. The Report of Findings allows us to show you and explain what we found and how we may be able to help you.

We answer the big questions:

  • What is wrong with me?
  • Can you fix it?
  • How long will it take?
  • How much will it cost?

All the questions are answered before you begin care. You are in charge of your health care and we want to give you all the information so you can make the best decision possible.

Regular Visits

The first and second visits are designed to discover what is wrong, what are the all the factors that are causing your problems and how can we fix them. Education is vital tool we use to help you understand how everything works together and a small problem can have huge effects. Regular visits will require about 30 minutes of your time. If you have a re-exam scheduled or a massage please allow an additional 15 minutes to an hour.

Avoid relapse with regular visits.

Each visit works off the one before. It is like working out the more you do in the beginning you better results you get. We know that schedules are sometimes hard to keep but a missed visit can cause you to lose the momentum necessary to make the needed changes.

Chiropractic Adjustment Techniques

Activator Method

The Activator Method is one of the most widely-researched chiropractic techniques and the only instrument adjusting technique with clinical trials to support its efficacy.  Activator Methods has published hundreds of clinical and scientific peer-reviewed papers, worked with major academic research institutions, and received grants from recognized entities like the National Institutes of Health.

Diversified

A method of adjusting the spine with the hands utilizing a gentle but specific force to realign the spine pelvis or extremities. Diversified is the most common form of adjusting. Usually a "pop" or cavitation is heard as when you "crack" your knuckles.

Impulse / Activator

An instrument used to gently realign the spine, pelvis or extremities. Instrument adjusting is mostly utilized on small children or the elderly. Cavitation ("Popping" or "cracking") is not part of the adjustment.

Thompson

A method of adjusting the spine that utilizes a "drop" table to assist in the realignment of the spine or pelvis. Cavitation ("Popping" or "cracking") is generally not part of the adjustment.

...and whatever other one is appropriate for your body

Back or neck pain? We could help you using Spinal Decompression Therapy.

WHAT IS SPINAL DECOMPRESSION THERAPY?

If you suffer from the pain associated with herniated discs, facet syndrome, bulging discs, degenerative joint disease, pinched nerves, or other spinal issues, Spinal Decompression Therapy could help. Using computer-aided technology, Dr. Amy and Dr. Matt will apply gentle, non-surgical decompression to your spine to increase circulation into the spinal discs and joints. This will relieve your pain and dysfunction and can help you to avoid invasive surgery or having to depend on drugs.

HOW DO SPINAL DECOMPRESSION TREATMENTS FEEL?

Most people tell us that Spinal Decompression Therapy is very relaxing. Dr. Matt and Dr. Amy are very attentive to your responses during treatment and your comfort is a priority.

If you are a lower back patient you will choose whether you prefer to lie on your stomach or your back. Once you are comfortable, padded straps stabilize your body on the table for treatment. If your neck is the source of your pain, you will lie on your back in a semi-seated position and a soft rubber neck harness will help to manipulate the neck and head. (add drawings of positions)

After you are in a relaxed position, Dr Amy or Dr Matt will then begin to guide the computerized table to pull your body slightly in different places. This will allow you to ease into the treatment and maximize its effectiveness. Each of the different scientifically determined manipulations will be held for approximately 45 to 60 seconds and then followed by a 30 second relax interval. This active phase of the treatment lasts 10-15 minutes and then is followed by gently decreasing steps in the tension to leave you feeling calm and relaxed. (add photos of treatment)

Our patients consistently tell us how good they feel afterward. They are amazed that so little pressure could be so effective and tell us that they expected far more discomfort.

Dr. Matt and Dr. Amy are well trained in providing Spinal Decompression Therapy and customizing your treatment for your particular requirements. We specialize in using our state-of-the-art equipment which is critical for these great outcomes.

WHY DOES SPINAL DECOMPRESSION WORK?

During treatments, Spinal Decompression gradually stretches your spine to increase the disc space between spinal bones. That creates a vacuum in the disc which pulls the disc away from the pinched nerve. Small improvements from treatment to treatment gradually decrease the disk herniation or bulge to provide relief of your pain. (add diagram)

The treatment also facilitates nutrient exchange called imbibition. As the level of nutrients increase in the disc, the rate of healing is improved. Discs don’t usually receive much blood and acquire their own nutrients so this process is very effective in helping you heal more rapidly. Research shows (reference) that disc space can increase 1-3 mm over a course of treatment which will take tremendous pressure off sensitive nerves.

In essence, Spinal Decompression is an updated form of standard traction or the more recent use of an inversion table. With Spinal Decompression, computer technology controls variations in the unloading of the spine, effectively avoiding the body's muscle contraction response.

Traction (both traditional and when suspended upside down) is intended to stretch the spine to readjust stress on the nerves but can result in increased pressure on the discs. Unfortunately, while traction can give some short-term relief, in the century since it began to be used, it has provided limited long-term effectiveness. The abrupt change in positioning in traction is less effective than the incremental adjustments provided by Spinal Decompression Therapy. And, with this approach, discs heal because they are rehydrated which leads to amazing pain relief.

Other alternatives to Spinal Decompression Therapy include Manual Spinal Decompression, Flexion Distraction, or Imbibition. These can all be beneficial for the spine. Unlike Spinal Decompression Therapy, however, research doesn’t indicate that they are effective in decompression on the discs or long-term reduction of disc herniations and or bulges.

WHAT CONDITIONS DOES SPINAL DECOMPRESSION HELP?

Spinal Decompression Therapy is not appropriate for all types of back and neck pain. Studies show that dramatic improvements are likely for

  • SCIATICA (pain, weakness, numbness, or tingling in the leg caused by injury to or compression of the sciatic nerve.)
  • RADIATING NECK PAIN (pain in the neck that spreads down into the shoulders, arms or hands)

And very good outcomes are found with

  • Chronic neck pain
  • Chronic low back pain

Some other conditions including spinal stenosis and significant bone spurring have lower success rates with Spinal Decompression Therapy but can also be helped.

Dr. Matt and Dr. Amy will evaluate your symptoms and give you the probable results for your condition. We care about each patient and provide treatments that are most likely to be effective. In peer-reviewed research studies ( ) between 82-93% of patients had good-to-excellent clinical improvements after the normal course of 20-25 treatments.

HOW MUCH DOES SPINAL DECOMPRESSION COST?

Spinal Decompression Treatments usually costs $125 per office visit. In most cases 20 visits will be necessary to maximize the long-term relief of your pain. Some people report significant reduction in as few as six visits and occasionally someone will report feeling much better after the first 45 minute treatment. Your Spinal Decompression Treatment will be followed by ice and cold laser in order to speed your healing. (check details of treatment)

Back and neck pain are extremely debilitating and at Wellness Solutions Chiropractic, we are dedicated to helping you find long-term relief as quickly and cheaply as possible. Because every body is different, Dr. Amy and Dr. Matt will help you to establish a treatment plan that is most appropriate for you. Our goal is to leave you sustainably pain-free by providing you with a rehabilitative process after your course of treatments that will help you to rebuild the core strength in your back and neck.

We tailor our payment plans to fit your budget and will accept most major credit cards. We also help you apply for a health loan known as a care credit so that you can pay for your course of treatment over time. Please ask us for the details.

Insurance companies may help pay for some part of your therapy costs but, like many newer medical treatments, Spinal Decompression Therapy is not widely covered. You will want to call your insurance provider to ask for your benefit options. We will be happy to help you work with the insurance company to determine what they will cover.

WHAT IF I AM NOT A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR SPINAL DECOMPRESSION?

Dr. Matt and Dr. Amy always work with you to help you find the best treatment option for you. Spinal Decompression is not appropriate for all conditions or all people. In addition, if your pain has continued too long, Spinal Decompression may no longer be effective.

Our goal at Wellness Solutions Chiropractic is to help you avoid surgery if at all possible. Everyone agrees that surgery should be the last option. We will always do everything we can to relieve your pain.
